About Carol Mannas
Carol Mannas completed a Bachelor of Interior Design Degree in the early 1980’s and ran a successful commercial Interior Design business in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for 30+ years. During those same years she studied at the Alberta College of Art and Design and has completed a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree (with distinction) in April 2017. Choosing Print Media as her major focus incorporates drawing, sculpture, color, and texture which are all elements present in her practice.
Since Graduation, Carol, an award winning print artist, has had pieces juried into Exhibitions and Shows in various galleries in Europe, the Middle East, The USA and Canada. Pieces have also been selected to be a part of Private Collections worldwide.

Facial Topography Laughlines

My specific area of interest is in the human form and structure and its containment by the skin; as well, the earth’s form and structure and its containment by its surface. Each skin or surface holds a powerful life force of energy in control; it keeps the living structures, liquids, neurons and heat in a shape that is recognizable to us all. The aging of this skin or surface is also of interest to me as the expression of the natural processes that we experience. Aging telegraphs an important story to the viewer about our time on this earth and the earth’s time in the universe.
The series that I have focused on in the fall of 2016 is related to aging and capturing the uplifting beauty of laugh lines. Society puts pressure on us as we age to erase the facial lines that give up our age to others and pull the face back to a more youthful smooth texture. I embrace the beauty of the crevices we work into our faces over the years and specifically the lines and crevices that emerge when we are laughing.
These undulations are a positive result of the facial topography we all have and a celebration of its beauty.

Film - 2021
Many of Carol’s pieces were used by production designer Tom Wyman in the feature film ‘Trust’ which was shot in Los Angeles, and is in the midst of a successful festival run. The film will be available to purchase / rent in February 2024.
